Bayly worked with Britax Aircraft Seating (now Heathtecna) on the design and supply of components for the refurbished 1st Class cabins on Qantas’ fleet of Boeing 747 aircraft.  Bayly provided the design amortised within the cost of the components supplied to Heathtecna’s Laverton base for assembly into the aircraft.  Bayly was involved in the design and supply of drinks trays, meal trays and ottoman fittings for cabins.

The design process focused heavily on the design of reliable mechanisms that addressed problems with the existing drinks and meal trays on the Qantas aircraft whilst adding additional functionality and amenity to the traveller’s flying experience.  Under intense timeline pressures, Bayly was able to provide design, prototyping and supply deadlines on schedule and without impact on the downtime of the aircraft during the refit process.  Bayly’s components needed to meet aircraft standards in terms of materials, corrosion, performance and reliability.  Parts were provided in fully labelled kits with pre-assembly completed in Bayly’s workshop.

Bayly used specially conceived and designed mechanisms driven by gas springs within the extreme space limitations of the cabin to achieve the high expectations of Qantas.
