Our First Lion
Product Design Melbourne
Bayly has been recognised for our work with McCann Worldgroup at the Cannes Lions Award last week. Bayly worked on the YMCA Playnasium late in 2016 which has scored a Bronze Lion in the Health Lions, Bronze Lion in the Entertainment Lions and Bronze Lion in the Design Lions. It also scored Silver in the Outdoor Lions.
The Cannes Lion Awards celebrate the best creative work in the world across a wide spectrum: from print and film communications to mobile and product design. From the 1793 entertainment entries, the judging panel awarded 78 Lions - 12 Gold, 22 Silver and 43 Bronze. The Playnasium was the only Australian work to win an award in the entertainment category.
Jury president, PJ Pereira, co-founder and chief creative officer, Pereira & O'Dell, said the work was "a perfect example of how a brand can make a statement, but also conquer and earn precious consumer time".
The Playnasium is an innovation in play and gym equipment. The three different pieces use a child's weight as the parents exercise weight. The installation has visited 9 locations around Victoria so far. The design of the Playnasium allows parents to get active while they spend quality time playing with their children. The YMCA's purpose has been "getting people together to get active" and this exciting product design with a social impact is something we feel has been missing from our parks and recreational areas.

Recognition in these awards is so exciting and this is our first Cannes Lion award. Thank you to the team at McCann and YMCA for giving us the opportunity to work on this project. Special shout out to the Bayly team: Lee Baker, Ryan Mischkulnig, Mark Bayly and Kelly Watts and our partners at Williams Patterns for their tireless work to realise this innovative product design.
